A Poem for National Grief Awareness Day

August 30, 2015

Death takes with it
the answers to questions
that you never knew
you needed to ask.

Suddenly, the conch shell
that has always set in
the bathroom

becomes a beach story
left untold

and you put your ear
to the smooth pink shell
and listen
for the life that was
left behind.
